God is a Spirit

2 Corinthians 3:17 KJV 1900
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2 Corinthians 4:5–6 KJV 1900
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

God’s Identity

God says that He is the Holy One.
Scripture tells us who God says He is and His oneness is a foundational truth.
Genesis 1:1–3 KJV 1900
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Deuteronomy 6:4–5 KJV 1900
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Jesus: God on display

God became a sinless human to live among His creation.
Jesus often quoted scripture to reveal His identity.
We still look at scripture to reveal Him today.
Isaiah 9:6 KJV 1900
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
John 1:1–5 KJV 1900
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
John 1:9–10 KJV 1900
That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
John 1:14 KJV 1900
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Who should be called the mighty God and everlasting Father? (Isaiah 9:6) _________________________________________________________
Who was the light that shone in the darkness? (John 1:11, 14) _________________________________________________________
Who was God in the flesh? (John 1 :14) _________________________________________________________

Jesus: Fully God and Fully Human

The man Christ Jesus was both fully God and fully human.
We see both of His natures (divine and human) in the scripture.
Colossians 2:8–9 KJV 1900
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Colossians 2:10 KJV 1900
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
Can a pure faith in Jesus be spoiled by religious philosophies or traditions? (verse 8) _________________________________________________________
How much of the divine nature of God dwells in Jesus? (verse 9) _________________________________________________________
Why is it important that Jesus was both human and divine? _________________________________________________________

The God who is to come.

Revelation 1:8 KJV 1900
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Jesus declares Himself as the one who is, was, and is to come.
We will see Him face to face at His second coming.
1. Who is the beginning and the ending? ____________________________________________________________
2. Can there be more than one almighty? ____________________________________________________________
3. How do you feel about His return? ____________________________________________________________

Closing

How does knowing the name of Jesus as the revelatory name of God, the Creator and Saviour, Lion and Lamb, Father and Son, cause you to think about the importance of praying and baptizing in His name?
